Digital Safety Over Winter Break

Many students find themselves with free time over winter break. This may result in more screentime than usual. Keep your kids safe by setting guidelines and simple expectations.

  • Set Screen-Time Boundaries. Examples include screen-free mealtimes, daily screentime limits and the use of a timer or parental settings on the device.
  • Platform Awareness. Be aware of the apps and platforms that your child is spending time on. Inspect the device daily, looking at chats on all platforms.
  • Personal Information. Remind your child not to share personal information anywhere online. This could include their location, school name or photos.
  • Use Parental Controls. Most devices have built-in parental controls that can help set time limits, restrict app downloads and give screen-time reports.

With a few steps, families can ensure a safe digital experience over winter break.
