Preparing Your Child for State Testing

Spring is the time of year when schools administer state tests. While state assessments are important, they don’t have to be overwhelming. With a little preparation and a positive mindset, students can approach the testing season with confidence and calm.

Here are some tips to make sure your child is ready:

  1. Sleep and food. Make sure your child has 8+ hours of sleep and a healthy breakfast with some protein to help keep their energy up.
  2. Arrive on time. Important directions are given at the beginning of each testing session. It is important that students are at school on time so they don’t miss any parts of the test.
  3. Read carefully. Remind your child to read the directions more than once to be sure they understand what is being asked.
  4. Take their time and check over their work. Please encourage your child to stay calm, take their time, and check over their answers before they decide they are finished.

By working together, families and schools can help students approach testing season with confidence, balance and a healthy mindset. With the right support, this time of year can be a positive opportunity to reflect on how far students have come.
